Winning
Shannon Rowbury is a US middle distance runner and 2009 IAAF World Championships bronze medalist in the 1500 meters. Recently Shannon wrote an article for the Huffington Post about what it was like to win a bronze medal for her country.
Her article explains her journey to the winning a bronze medal at the World Championships in 2009. What we can take away from Shannon's words can be must describe by Shannon in this sentence. "It would be impossible to pinpoint the moment when I started working for a medal. I think experiences in life create dreams, which then become goals, and all along the way everything you do affects your journey towards them."
I believe that each of us, everyday or age group runners, approach our running the same way. We came to running for a lot of reasons we are sure about, we enjoyed it enough to reach for another goal. Our goals and dreams became mixed as we thought about what was next and life affects our journey but we keep reaching for our own type of medal, though it might be to drink more beer, or beat a fellow runner, or qualify for Boston.
