The Rogue Series continues to grow as each race increases year after year. The 30% growth each year suggests that these races will fill long before race date by next year. At a time of year when many of the other races have all but disappeared, the extreme conditions bring out the best, as they refuse to quit just because it got hot.
The 7am start to the LOOP 30km began at 75 degrees and 93% humidity, but gradually these two conditions switched as it approached noon. 183 people started, but only 157 finished as the heat, humidity, and rocks took their toll. Paul Terranova lead from start to finish with Paul Frost hot on his heels for the 2nd year in a row. The winning time: 2:09:07. Lisa Pohlit took the women's title in 2:27:44, with Brenna Abbitt and Dee Giles just 3 minutes back.
The 10km began 30 minutes later with Adam Reiser taking home the win and a new course record in 38:14. Colton Connelly and Yancy Cup were 3 minutes back. Meagan Newsome won the women's race in 47:41 with Cindy Henges 2 minutes later. 194 runners began this journey with all but two completing the loop.
The course at Emma Long Motocross park is a single 10km loop, with The 10km staggered back 30 minutes to break up the crowd. The 30km runners do the same 10km loop three times. With 376 people spread evenly across both races, there was little overlap. The terrain was rugged and rocky with 3 foot ledges occurring at regular intervals to test the quads and hamstrings of each while the heat and humidity slowly wore away at their resolve.
The Rogue family took good care of everybody at aid stations placed at 3 mile intervals and burgers at the finish line. This was the 2nd of three races, with only the BELT remaining on June 24th. Each race is progressively more difficult, which means that the BELT should really entertain. Also, the BELT requires quite a few more volunteers, so if you can't run the BELT, we could sure use your help. Please contact Joe Prusaitis at the Rogue office if you'd like to see the other side of one of these Rogue races.
